How to Install Golf Club Grips
Sure, you could send your clubs to a professional to have your grips replaced. Or you could buy a whole new set of clubs when your grips become worn. But golf is expensive enough as it is without adding grip maintenance to the list. Replacing your own grips is one of the simplest things to do in the sport, much simpler than hitting out of a fried-egg bunker lie from 150 yards out.
Things You'll Need
- Utility knife
- Mineral wash
- Scrubbing pad
- New golf grips
- Double-sided tape
- Vice grip
- Solvent solution

1
Cut off the old grips. Use a sharp utility knife and cut the grip to the top of the shaft. Peel it back as if you are peeling a banana. Slice off any pieces of tape that were used to keep the grip in place, taking care not to damage the shaft.

2
Apply the mineral wash to the scrubbing pad and scrub off the old glue from the grips.

3
Hold your new grip up to the shaft and mark how far down the shaft the grip comes with a small marker. Apply double-sided tape and wrap it all the way down the shaft until you hit the mark you made.
-
4
Place the club in a vice and tighten it. The club head should be facing up and the tape exposed.
-
5
Add grip solvent into the new grip while covering the hole at the bottom of the grip. Shake the solvent well and the pour it out on the shaft and the double-sided tape.
-
6
Slide the grip on the shaft all the way down so it is snug. Take the club out of the vice, hold the club how you would and twist the grip so it is lined up straight with the club head. Let it dry for 24 hours.
