If you cannot remember your network key for your wireless network, you can plug your computer into the router to change the network key. If this is not possible, you will have to reset the wireless router to its original factory settings. This will erase any encrypted networks you have set up, and you can create a new wireless network key that is easier to remember.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable.

  2. Step 2

Access the Netgear router by typing "http://192.168.1.1/" into your browser window. Use "admin" as the username and "password" or "1234" as the password. These are the default user name and passwords Netgear routers ship with. If you can access the router, change the wireless network key. If the username and password do not work, proceed to Step 3.

  3. Step 3

Locate the reset button on the back of the browser and use an unfolded paper clip to press the reset button. Hold down the button for about 10 seconds until the test light blinks.

  4. Step 4

Wait for the router to reboot--about one or two minutes. Connect to the router as instructed in Step 2. After a reset, you will have to reconfigure all router settings, but you can also change the wireless network key.
