In order to write the word "konnichiwa" in Japanese, it is important to know hiragana. Hiragana is just one part of the Japanese writing system in which each character represents a sound. The other two writing systems are katakana and kanji. Hiragana characters can be combined to create Japanese words and phrases. Hiragana is used for words that have no kanji equivalent. "Konnichiwa" is a word that has no kanji equivalent, so hiragana must be used. There are five hiragana characters used to form the word "konnichiwa" in Japanese.

  1. Step 1

    The first hiragana character used in the word "konnichiwa" represents the "ko" sound. In Japanese, the character appears like this: こ. It is written in two strokes - one of the top and one for the bottom.

  2. Step 2

    The second hiragana character represents the "n" sound. The character appears as ん in Japanese.

  3. Step 3

    The third hiragana character represents the "ni" sound. The character that represents this sound is に in Japanese.

  4. Step 4

    The fourth hiragana character used in the word "konnichiwa" represents the "chi" sound and looks like this: ち.

  5. Step 5

    The final hiragana character is わ, which represents the "wa" sound. When all of the characters are put together, they form the word "konnichiwa" and appear in Japanese using the hiragana writing system as follows: こんにちわ.
