How to Care for a Leather Top Table

Leather furniture compliments a household's appearance and can last much longer than other furniture if it is cared for in the right way. It is important to clean and protect your leather furniture. Leather top tables require special attention, because they can be exposed to different materials, oils and liquids that get placed on them. There are also precautions to take besides cleaning to ensure that your leather top table lasts as long as possible.

Instructions

1. Place your leather top table in an area where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight. Extended exposure to the sun can cause it to fade and warp (this is the standard for all leather furniture).

2. Avoid placing beverages directly on a leather top table; always use coasters. Also, avoid placing dyed pieces of paper (such as colored napkins or newspaper) on a leather top table, because the leather may absorb the dyes and stain the tables surface.

3. Clean your leather top table weekly. Use a soft clean cloth on the table to firmly wipe away dust. If you notice a lot of soil buildup, dampen the soft cloth with some room temperature water and firmly rub it over the leather table top to remove any soil or debris.

4. Use a vacuum with a soft brush extension to carefully vacuum the top of the leather top table. You can use this method or just clean the table top with a cloth.

5. Use a soft, clean cloth soaked in a mild leather cleaner every five months to rub over the leather table top.

6. Follow the mild leather cleaner with a protective leather cream. Apply this by firmly rubbing the cream in circular motions into the leather fabric. Let it soak in before placing anything on the table top.
