1
Adjust any external volume controls on the headset so they are turned off or in the quietest position possible. Put your computer's sound levels at a mid-range value. Until you get to know what volume level works well for you, start quietly and gradually increase the volume.
-
2
Insert the cable from your USB headset into an open USB port on your computer. In the case of a wireless USB headset, insert the small USB antenna into the slot and turn on the wireless headset itself. Many wireless devices do not automatically start up when the USB antenna is inserted.

3
Wait while your computer detects the new USB device and automatically installs any necessary drivers. A small message that says "Device is ready to use" will appear when the process has completed. Your USB headset should be ready to use, and you can begin voice chatting using Skype or another preferred service.

4
Open a voice chat, music player or personal recording program to test the volume. Gradually increase any external volume selectors on the headset until the software's audio is at an appropriate level.

Open an audio program and gradually adjust the headset's volume until it's at a comfortable level for you. Your headset is now ready to go. Open any installed voice chat programs and begin chatting away without any additional setup.
