How to Connect 3 Computers

Using ethernet cables and a network switch, you can share an Internet connection between three computers and create a local area network. After the network has been configured, you can share files, printers and other services between the three computers on the network.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on the network switch by connecting the device to its power adapter.

      Run one ethernet cable from the output port on your cable or DSL modem to one of the free ports on the network switch.

      Connect the other three ethernet cables to free ports on the network switch.

      Plug each ethernet cable into the ethernet ports of the three computers.

      Use file or printer sharing services to send data between the three computers. On a PC, right-click on the printer or the file folder that you wish to share on your local network and choose the "Sharing" option. On a Mac, go to the "Sharing" control panel in System Preferences and check the "File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing" options.
