How to Convert Microsoft Money to Quickbooks
With the June 10, 2009, announcement that Microsoft would be discontinuing MS Money (link to the announcement provided in References), many MS Money users are looking to export their data for use in another financial package. Intuit's Quickbooks family of products is the industry leader and will certainly pick up a number of MS Money's customers.

Download the free trial version of Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2009 by following the on-screen instructions from the link provided in the Resources section. (Please note: Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2009 will only work on systems that run Windows XP/2003 Server/Vista.)

Enter your email address in the field, click the "Download Trial" button and then click the "Click here to start your download now" link. You will be presented with a Windows dialog box where you will click "Save File."

Double-click on the file that downloaded (onto your desktop) to begin the installation process; then select "Install Now" and click "Next." Click "Yes" to agree to the Terms and Services; then click "Install|" to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, click "Finish."

Launch the Office Account Express 2009 program and click "Remind Me Later" at the Activation screen. When presented with the Customer Feedback screen, click "Cancel."

Click "Import Data" from Microsoft Money and navigate to the folder where your MS Money data files are stored. Select the file you wish to import and click "Next."

Select "Migrate" (by placing a check in the box next to each account you wish to import) when presented with the Migrate Accounts screen and click "Next."

Select either the "Migrate as Vendor" or "Migrate as Customer" (by placing a check in the box next to each payee to import) in the Migrate Payees screen and click "Next."

Click "Next" when presented with the Select Add-in Packs screen; then click "Import" at the Data Pending Migration screen and finally click "Finish" when notified that the Data Migration has been completed.

Open your registered copy of Intuit's QuickBooks (2005 or later) and switch to single-user mode, if necessary.

Direct your browser to the QuickBooks conversion tool (link supplied in the Resources section), fill out the required form and click "Download."

Save the file to your Desktop (default location).

Double-click on the file that was downloaded, which will begin the QuickBooks Conversion Tool installation.

Access the QuickBooks Conversion Tool through the "Start" button, "All Programs" and select the "QuickBooks Conversion Tool" menu item where you will be able to launch the QuickBooks Conversion Tool software.

Please note: The Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2009 download is 161 MB and will take an extended period of time, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. This is probably not possible on a dial-up connection.
