    Selling Homemade Church Cookies

  1. Step 1

Plan your sale. Meet with your group to decide on the details of your sale. Will it be on one specific day or multiple days? What time will the sale be? Who will be there to work? Are there any upcoming events that would lend themselves to a cookie sale (for example, a carnival, family fun night or musical program)? How much money would you like to raise? What kinds of cookies will you offer, and how much will you charge? Who will bake which type of cookie?

  2. Step 2

Advertise your project. First use methods of communication that are already in use at your church. These may include a church bulletin, newsletter or Web site. Post signs and fliers around the church grounds as well as at other local public areas such as stores and schools. (Make sure you get permission from owners and managers before posting signs!) Make sure your advertisements are concise and easy to read. Use bright colors if possible. Include the following information: who or what group is conducting the sale; what is being sold; the date and time of the sale; and where the sale will take place.

  3. Step 3

Prepare your goods. Have your "chefs" bag their cooled cookies in plastic bags for easy handling during the sale. Decide on a standard size for cookies and how many should be in each bag. Make a sign with a list of prices on it so that your customers can refer to it easily. Obtain a money box, and have coins and bills ready in order to make change.

  4. Step 4

Set up your sale. Group members should arrive at least a half-hour before the sale starts. Use a table to display your cookies. If the table is not in the best cosmetic shape, cover it with a table cloth. Post your price list. Have a stack of napkins available. Set out chairs for the people who will be monitoring the sale, and put the money box in a location that's easy for them to access.

  5. Step 5

Sell your cookies! Always greet your customers with a smile and a helpful attitude. Handle money carefully so that none gets misplaced. And be sure to thank everyone who helped to carry out the sale.
