Demonstrating church choir etiquette shows respect for the choir and congregation. The choir is a team effort and requires coming together with enthusiasm, but also the willingness to follow basic church choir etiquette.

        On Time

        BE PUNCTUAL - Church Choir etiquette requires punctuality. Make sure you arrive on time for both rehearsals and performances. It is respectful to the other members of the choir and your choir leader to arrive on time. It will also better prepare you for the performance.

        If you are going to be late, make sure to call and let the choir leader know.

        Attendance

        HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE - If you are going to join your church choir you should make sure you can attend rehearsals. If you need to miss a rehearsal or performance make sure to talk to your choir leader in advance to let him/her know.

        If you can not attend the rehearsals, you should not expect to perform.

        SOCIALIZE ON BREAKS - Socialization is a major part of choir, but it is really important that you keep the talking to before choir, after choir and during breaks. Socializing with each other during rehearsal is distracting to others.

        IF YOU ARE SICK, STAY HOME - This is a big one. Although, you are wanted at choir rehearsal, church choir etiquette demands that you make sure you stay home when you are sick.

        This will allow you and your beautiful voice to heal appropriately and protect other church choir members from getting sick as well.

        Appropriate Attire

        BE PREPARED - Show up to Church Choir rehearsal prepared and ready to learn. Have your sheet music printed out if possible, bring a pencil and be ready to learn.

        DRESS APPROPRIATELY - Make sure not to wear anything that could be distracting or embarrassing to those around you. Be modest and respectful of the setting and those around you.
