Mmmmm. The smell of fresh baked cookies wafting from my grandmother's kitchen. It is a smell I will always remember, especially when I bake for my own family. This recipe was my grandmother's favorite. I only make them at Christmas time, but they can be made any time. You will think you are sinking your teeth into a chocolate, cherry, marshmallow sundae. These are great for a get together, but they are messy to make.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
  • 2 oz. unsweetened bakers chocolate (melted)
  • 2 Tblsp. milk
  • 1/2 c. chopped maraschino cherries (no stems)
  • Large marshmallows cut in half
  • 1 can chocolate frosting
  • Cookie sheets
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Oven mitts
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Chop cherries and set aside.

  3. Step 3

In large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, softened butter and egg. Mix thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Add melted chocolate, cherry juice and milk. Mix thoroughly.

  5. Step 5

Add flour, baking soda and salt.

  6. Step 6

Mix in chopped cherries. Stir till well combined. Batter will be sticky.

  7. Step 7

Place by tablespoons two inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes or until just firm.

  8. Step 8

While cookies are in oven, Cut large marshmallows in half cross ways. When cookies come out of the oven, before removing from the pan, place half marshmallow on top of each cookie. Press down to make sure it sticks.

  9. Step 9

Remove cookie from pan and cool completely. After cooled, frost with chocolate frosting. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a messy cookie dough so be prepared for your hands to be sticky.
  • Don't bake too long, cookie will dry out.
  • Try with other flavors of frosting for different tastes.
  • Always use safe food handling practices when cooking.
