When it comes to weddings, costs can spiral out of control very quickly. A cheap wedding reception however can keep expenses down considerably.

The reception is by far the most costly part of many weddings as you have to pay for every single guest that you invite, and usually you don't want to leave anyone out.

So how do you do a wedding reception on a budget but still create a day that nobody will forget?

Here are some steps to help you save hundreds if not thousands on your wedding reception.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have a backyard reception. Instead of spending money on a venue, have the reception at home or in a free public place like a park.

  2. Step 2

If you are having a smaller reception you can ask close family and friends to help prepare food. Many will be glad to help as a wedding gift to you and even if you have to purchase a lot of the food yourself you will be saving a lot of money as catering is often the most expensive part.

  3. Step 3

Create Your Own Flowers. Don't spend hundreds on flower arrangements - easily create your own by getting ideas from magazines and websites.

  4. Step 4

DIY Photography. Great digital cameras are cheap these days and you're sure to know someone with an SLR and a suitable lens. Ask them to do your photography and save thousands of dollars.

Tips & Warnings
  • These tips on planning a cheap wedding reception will leave more money in your pocket for your honeymoon, new house or just simply to save. After all, your wedding should not mean spending every dollar you have. Spending less on the wedding means having more money to start a new chapter in your life together.
