Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 cup chamomile flowers
- juice of one lemon
- 2 cups boiling water
-
Step 1
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan or teakettle. Remove from the heat when it reaches a rolling boil.
-
Step 2
Place dried or fresh chamomile flowers in a 1 quart jar or other container. Chamomile has been used to brighten blond hair for hundreds of years. It also is a traditional folk remedy for upset stomach and many other ailments. Because of this, you can usually find dried chamomile flowers in small bodegas and ethnic groceries or in health food and nutrition shops.
-
Step 3
Add the juice of one lemon to the chamomile flowers. If you prefer, you can use 2 tablespoons of reconstituted lemon juice instead of fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice is a natural hair lightener. Its addition to the chamomile infusion intensifies the brightness of blond hair. If your hair has red undertones or highlights, you might want to skip the lemon juice to avoid brassiness.
-
Step 4
Pour boiling water over the chamomile flowers and lemon juice. Stir well with a non-metal spoon, then steep for at least ten minutes.
-
Step 5
Strain the chamomile mixture through cheesecloth or a strainer. Set the strained infusion aside to cool while you wash and condition your hair as usual.
-
Step 6
Pour the cooled chamomile infusion over your hair, working it through the strands with your fingers. Do not rinse.
-
Step 7
Use chamomile rinse once a week to keep blond hair looking bright and shiny.
