Early signs of menopause aren't always easy to spot because we're not looking for them. On the other hand, many times it's because we're in denial and don't want to face up to it. Whatever the case may be one thing for sure is we will have to face it sooner or later.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Menstrual cycle

    Menstrual cycle

When the early signs of menopause set in it can be unsettling. After all, sometimes dramatic changes take place in our bodies. Not to mention, our state of mind. I remember the early years of my menopause I was so in denial I just couldn't believe that it was happening at age 38.

Well, I was wrong! One of the first things that I noticed was that my menstrual cycle wasn't coming every month. This is the first thing that really made me take notice and come out of denial. I knew something was up and this is a tangible thing you cannot overlook plus I knew I couldn't be pregnant.

  2. Step 2
    Emotional outbursts

    Emotional outbursts

Once you come out of denial then it starts to register when something abnormal happens or you over react. For example, when you go ballistic on somebody over a minor mistake and don't why you did it. Naturally, you feel bad about it later, but can't take back what you did or said.

Of course, along with emotional outbursts there are the physical side effects that come with it like hot flashes. Every time I got upset it felt like my cheeks were on fire. I didn't know this was early signs of menopause I thought it was anger.

  3. Step 3
    Night sweats

    Night sweats

The one I hated the most was night sweats, they were awful and since I knew nothing about menopause I had no idea why it was happening. I can remember getting up at two in the morning soaking wet and confused.

Yet, another embarrassing menopause symptom is vaginal dryness. I really didn't know what to make of it and kind of went back into denial. I suppose many women do the same thing, because they get used to how their body is and don't want to accept changes that they cannot control.

  4. Step 4
    Weight gain

    Weight gain

In the early signs of menopause there's also a good chance you will start to put on weight. Thanks goodness I didn't do this, but it's only because of my addiction to exercise. The shift in hormones causes the metabolism to slow down, so not enough fat is burned for calories taken in.

While it's true not everyone will have the same signs or symptoms we will have some of them. Yes, the early signs of menopause can be a challenge, but the good news is it gets easier to handle them as time goes on.
