A wiffle ball can move in amazing ways that many people wouldn't believe. One throw can move even up to ten feet just by holding the ball a certain way! There is no magic involved, it is the way the wind pushes the ball. As hard as it may seem to throw a pitch like this, the truth is that anyone can do it. I'll break down the method of pitching cool wiffle ball pitches.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a wiffle ball
  • some open space
  1. Step 1

A wiffle ball is designed with holes on the ball. When thrown, the air goes into these holes and creates a wind that pushes the wiffle ball in a certain direction. This is how the following pitches occur.

  2. Step 2

The first pitch I will teach you how to throw is called the slider. This one is my favorite of the pitches. Hold the ball with the holes on the right side and throw the ball as hard as you can. It should curve to the left. The faster you throw it, the more it curves. One time I threw this pitch, it was about to hit the batter but then it curved into a strike.

  3. Step 3

Another pitch is called the curve ball. You are probably familiar with this from baseball, but in wiffle ball it is much different. Hold the ball with the holes on the left and throw. If you throw it fast enough, you should see the ball curve downward.

  4. Step 4

This time, hold the ball with the holes in front. When you throw it, it should curve to the right. It goes in the opposite direction of the slider.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't get discouraged if you don't get the ball to move at first. Practice makes perfect.
  • Stretch before AND after throwing these pitches.

on 6/23/2009 This is great. I play with my kids all teh time. I always thought wiffle balls flew too randomly. It's good to know you can actually control the pitch of the wiffleball.
