Things You'll Need:
- Dirham money
- Small understanding of basic French (or Arabic)
- A vomit bag
-
Step 1
Buses in MoroccoBus: Yes, you can travel by bus through Morocco. There are local buses (often called chicken buses by foreigners) and swank buses, like CTM that travel throughout the country. Each hour of travel costs roughly 15 dirham (again gives you an idea).
-
Step 2
Grand Taxi: Big Taxis can carry up to six persons (including driver) to and fro legally. It's a bit cramped. Expect to may about the same as a bus or a few dirham more per hour of transport. Hint: You can buy one or two or even three or more seats if you want more room for yourself. If you got the money, you can do as you please (this is not as uncommon as it sounds, especially if the driver is looking for one last passenger to fill an empty seat).
-
Step 3
Train: There is a nice train line that runs from North to South through Morocco. Access to the major cities is possible, though smaller routes are not. Soon, there will be a speedy train, like the TGV through France and Europe. For now, you'll pay about double for an assigned seat in first class on the train. Don't expect to get a seat in second class, unless you're lucky enough to be at the first or last stop of the line.
-
Step 4
Petite Taxi: Each town and city has its own color petite taxi. These are metered taxis and only go inside town. These don't cost much, but expect to be haggled in Marrakech, where drivers charge about five times the usual price. Sit there till they turn on the meter. Buses in Marrakech are becomming easier and the way to go.
-
Step 5
Calling E-AAA-RRR-LLL in MoroccoChicken Bus: These are the junker buses that larger companies no longer use. These are also called Local Buses and are much more run down, but doubly cheaper. Have patience and a barf bag handy if you plan on taking these. Sitting in front will make you less likely to Call E-AAA-RRR-LLL.
-
Step 6
Airplane: Planes do connect Fez, Casablanca, Marrakech and town down in Western Sahara. If not part of a larger ticket, these can shaft you for an arm and a leg. They are frequently not on time.
