Eligibility
You will not be eligible for Food Stamp benefits if you possess more than $2,000 in your bank account , in cash , or property. This amount may vary from state to state so be sure to check with your local Social Security office beforehand.

Prepare Proper Documents
Before you apply for Food stamps you will need to be sure you have all of the proper documents . You will need your state issued ID card or Drivers License and your Social Security Card. Depending on which state you live in additional documents may be required , such information may be found on your states Social Security website accessible by logging on to SocialSecurity.gov (See Resources Section Below).

Apply
Once you have gathered together all of the documents you need , it is time head down to your local Social Security office and officially apply for Food Stamp Benefits. Once you are the Social Security office , fill out the initial Food Stamp application and turn it in to the proper window . Your name will be called and you will speak to a case worker who will ask you to fill out paperwork and tell you everything you need to know about the Food Stamp Program.

Approval
Upon being approved for food stamps you will receive an EBT debit card or paper vouchers of which you will use to purchase food items at the store. The EBT card is easy to use and works exactly the same as a debit card. As long as you remain eligible for food stamps , your benefits will be reloaded to this card each month.
Note: Approval may take up to 3 - 4 weeks. However if you are homeless or absolutely broke, emergency food stamps are available.

Quarterly Reporting
Most Social Security Offices will require that you comply with their quarterly reporting policy. These reports must be sent in every 3 months and are used to keep the Social Security office up to date with any changes in your income, address changes, Job status, etc. Failure to turn in your quarterly Food Stamp reports may result in termination of your eligibility in the Food Stamp program.
