Things You'll Need:
- 1 pound of hamburger, 1 large jar of spaghetti sauce, 4 cans of kidney beans, fresh OR dried onion
-
Step 1
Brown the pound of hamburger with the onion: fresh onion OR dried onion work equally well. For the sake of convenience, I prefer to use dried onions.
-
Step 2
Drain the kidney beans. Do NOT rinse them: the slight sweetness adds to the dish.
-
Step 3
Put the browned hamburger and onion, the jar of spaghetti sauce, and the kidney beans in a large pot. Heat, stirring often to prevent sticking. The chili is ready to eat as soon as it is hot.
-
Step 4
If refridgerated, it tastes just as good the second day! Like most bean dishes, however, freezing softens the beans and makes them a little mushy. This dish does not freeze well.
We always had it with hot, buttered french bread, salad, and milk. Mom always sliced the bread, buttered it, and then reassembled it. The loaf of bread would then be put into the oven to get hot.
