If you are having tough times and are in need of money to help you make it through, you should apply for Florida Cash Assistance (Florida TANF). TANF stands for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and it is administered in Florida by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Florida cash assistance, (Florida TANF) is what is traditionally thought of as welfare. If you are eligible, apply for Florida Cash Assistance today, so that you can get the money that you need in order to get back up on your feet - but, remember, Florida Cash Assistance is designed to be a TEMPORARY solution.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to applying for Florida Cash Assistance (Florida TANF) is to gather up all of your information pertaining to your income and assets for all of your household members: bank statements, financial aid award letters, etc.

*In order to receive Florida TANF a household must include a minor child.

  2. Step 2

Gather all of the your official identification and citizenship documents: birth certificates, social security cards, driver's license, state identification card, etc for everyone in your household.

*In order to receive Florida Cash Assistance, you must be a U.S. Citizen, there are very limited situations when non-citizens can apply - contact the Florida Department of Children and Families to inquire about eligible non-citizens.

  3. Step 3

If your minor child is of school age, you must contact the school and obtain proof of enrollment. The same goes for everyone else that is in the household who attends educational training.

*Your minor child/children must be enrolled in school, and their immunizations must be up to date in order to receive Florida Cash Assistance.

  4. Step 4

Gather all of your documents that provide proof that you live in Florida: a lease which shows your current address, a written statement from a Florida resident that you may be living with (shelter verification letter).

*You must reside in Florida in order to apply for Florida Cash Assistance (Florida TANF)
*This may seem obvious, but I have to include it anyway: you must officially live in Florida to receive TANF in Florida.

*If you are living in a special setting such as a homeless shelter, drug treatment center, nursing home, assisted living facility, adult family care home, mental health residential treatment facility, or other
institution, you need to get verification of your living arrangements.

  5. Step 5

If you are a single parent who is trying to apply for Florida Cash Assistance, you must provide information about the absent parent of the minor child.

  6. Step 6

If you have ended a job in the last 90 days, you will need to provide wage and salary information for the last paycheck that you have received.

  7. Step 7

Finally, you will need to gather all of your documents that show your expenses: rent, utilities, mortgage, daycare, etc.

  8. Step 8

Once you have gathered all of the required information, and you have everything sitting in front of you, you will go to the Access Florida website in order to apply online for Florida Cash Assistance. The web address is listed beneath this article.

*Did you know that you can apply for TANF in Florida online, in the comfort of your own home? Gone are the days when you have to go to the "welfare office" to fill out a paper TANF application. Good Luck to you.
