How to Make a Facebook Account

In the new world of electronic communication, it is important to be able to have a resource in which you can communicate with friends, coworkers and family online in one place. One way to do this is through a Facebook account.

Instructions

    • 1

If you are a minor, ask your parents if it's OK for you to have a Facebook account, and allow them to help you make it.

    • 2

Get an email account. You will need a valid e-mail address in order to have a Facebook account. If you do not have one, acquire a free e-mail address from sites like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.

    • 3

Log on to Facebook.com In the sign-up section box to the right of the Facebook page, fill out the information and click "Sign up."

    • 4

Select whether you want your page to be private or not. With the private option, you will be able to choose what information people will be able to see when they search for you. For example, you will have the option of setting your page so that when people try to find you as a friend on Facebook, they will only be able to see your name and the "add to friends" button. To set your page to private, adjust your "account setting" option on the top of your profile. If your page is public, anyone will be able to see your profile page.

    • 5

Upload a photo for your profile. On your profile page click on the photo box at the top left. From there, you will be able to browse your computer to add a photo of yourself.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are uncomfortable with Web sites like Facebook, do research on them. You can also make your account private instead of public. Do not add people you are not comfortable or feel safe adding.

  • Joining groups and becoming fans of other pages is a common way to become active on Facebook.
