Things You'll Need:
- An IDE to USB Adapter
-
Step 1
Set the IDE hard drive next to the laptop, near a USB port.
-
Step 2
Plug the appropriate IDE connection on the adapter into the back of the old hard drive.
-
Step 3
Plug the power cord that came with the adapter into a wall socket. Pllug the other end of the power adapter into the four-pronged power plug on the back of the hard drive. Wait several seconds for the hard drive to spin up.
-
Step 4
Plug the USB cord from the adapter into the laptop. On the laptop, the drive should appear automatically as an external drive, just as if you'd plugged in a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
