How to turn a basic object in flash into a symbol

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • flash computer software..
  1. Step 1

Draw an object on the main stage of flash. This can be anything a word you type or a square that you draw.

  2. Step 2

This gets to stay pretty simple here, now select that object using the direct selection tool. Once you have done that. Hit f8. This is known as the hot key to turn the selected object into a symbol.

  3. Step 3

Now you get to decide what kind of symbol here. Do you want it to be a movie clip, to animate for the time line? then choose Movie Clip. Do you want it to work as a button? Choose the button option, and here is where you can create your buttons for flash. the graphic option I never use, and therefore I never choose it. So you can leave it alone as well. the only ones I care about in 3.0 or 2.0 action Script purposes is the Movie Clip, symbol or the button symbol. Then of course at the bottom click ok. Cool, now it is a symbol.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you like flash learn this until you can do it in your sleep. Because it is the very basic of Flash. Enjoy.. Hope this Helps.
