Things You'll Need:
- Fabric of cotton, linen, silk or burlap
- Dried lavender
- Sewing machine and thread
- Lace or ribbon
-
Step 1
Pick a fabric to make the sachets. Bring the measurements of the size of the sachet you want to the fabric store. A typical sachet ranges from 3 to 5 inches long and 3 to 4 inches wide. Choose a fabric that suits the overall mood of the wedding. For an elegant wedding, use silk; for a casual outdoor wedding, use burlap, cotton or linen.
-
Step 2
Obtain dried lavender by cutting it in the garden and drying it or by purchasing dried lavender at a garden store or online. Crumble the lavender into small pieces no larger than the size of a pea. Remove any pieces of lavender that are mildewed or damp.
-
Step 3
Cut the fabric into the shape of the sachet you want to make. Popular shapes include round, square, heart-shaped or the shape of the initials of the bride or groom. Cut the fabric 1-inch larger all around than the final size to allow for hems.
-
Step 4
Turn the fabric inside out, and pin the two pieces for the sachet together with straight pins.
-
Step 5
Sew the pieces of the sachet together on three sides. Sew the fourth side about halfway, being sure to leave an opening to add the lavender to the sachet.
-
Step 6
Fill the sachet with lavender so it is plump and full. Use fingers to feel the sachet and crumble any lumps of lavender that are too large or solid.
-
Step 7
Holding the open seam closed, shake the sachet to distribute the lavender evenly.
-
Step 8
Stitch the final seam together to close up the sachet.
-
Step 9
Shake the sachet again to distribute the contents evenly. Feel it again to ensure that any large lumps of lavender have been broken down. This also helps to distribute the scent of the lavender so it starts to scent the fabric of the sachet.
-
Step 10
Attach a loop of ribbon or lace to the top of the sachet if you want to be able to hang it. Add sequins or ribbon to the sachet for a decorative touch if desired.
