How to Defrost a Mini Fridge

Mini-fridges can be convenient ways to store food without taking up much room. But when it comes time to move or clean your fridge, things can get messy if you don't plan ahead. Follow the steps below to defrost your mini-fridge with the least amount of mess and time. Does this Spark an idea?

  Remove all the contents inside of the fridge. This includes food, drinks and ice.

  Unplug the fridge.

  Place several towels inside the fridge and on the floor around the fridge. This will help collect any excess moisture.

  Prop the fridge door open and leave overnight.

  Check the freezer area of the fridge. Some mini-fridges have a tray below the freezer area that may collect water. Empty this tray to prevent spillage.

Tips & Warnings

Some mini-fridges have an "auto-defrost" setting. Instead of unplugging the mini-fridge simply select this setting.
Be sure to leave the fridge door open while defrosting, otherwise moist towels inside may get moldy.

You will need duct tape, trash bag, and a few towels if needed. Tape the bag up high close to the freezer, making sure the bag is taped well. The water should not make a mess anywhere. When finished, empty bag in the bath tub and clean inside and dry well. This has worked for me many a times. Good luck.
