The crease (turn of the brim) of a cowboy hat, is as unique as the cowboy wearing it. The exacting measure is truly an individual preference. There are basically two different types of cowboy hat creases: a roll and a hard crease. With just a few tips, you can create a personalized crease to your cowboy hat.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cowboy hat Clothes steamer or steam iron
  1. Step 1

Create the roll crease by softening one side of the cowboy hat with steam. Although professional cowboy hat shops have a specific steaming tool for this, you can get the same results from a hand clothes steamer or the steam button on your iron.

  2. Step 2

Place your thumb on top and your first two fingers, of each hand, at the front and back of the cowboy hat, where you would like the roll crease. Gently roll the side brim as high as you desire. Let the hat completely dry and then repeat the same process on the other side.

  3. Step 3

Create the hard crease by softening one side of the cowboy hat with steam, as in step 1. Place your thumbs and fingers at the location you would like the crease.

  4. Step 4

Place the under side of the brim against your body and crease the edges where your fingers and thumbs are holding it, on the sides. Gently make a folding-crease, with your fingers moving from the inside-top of the brim, center out. Let this side completely dry and follow the same procedures for the other side.
