How to Compare Flights
When it comes to buying airplane tickets, consumers have more power than ever. You can check and compare flights based on a wide variety of characteristics, and find out specifically which plane you will be on, as well its features and amenities.

1
Use Kayak.com's flight search engine to input your chosen flight parameters. You can choose round-trip or one way, the airport you will be flying from and where you would like to fly, departure and return date (flexible dates available with registration), time of day you would like to fly, number of travelers, and class you would like to fly.
-
2
Compare the results. They can be sorted by price, airline, number of stops, time of day, trip duration, and airport. It is a very powerful engine that allows you to check flights across multiple categories and qualifications.

3
Select a flight, and the details will be displayed -- exact departure times, the airport of departure, connecting flights and the type of airplane that flies the route. Make note of the type of aircraft you'll be flying.

Use www.SeatGuru.com to check how that particular airplane is configured. Select the airline you will be flying on the menu to the left. Find the specific make and model of the plane in the drop-down menu, and click on it. SeatGuru.com rates flights by their amenities and features, and also has full seating charts for all plane types that are flown today. The menus will display seat reviews, amenities available, number of seats in each class, as well as user comments if someone else has flown on that specific plane.

5
Call your chosen airline using the phone number under 'General Information' on the SeatGuru.com site to check on discounts and hidden fees. Make sure the price you see on Kayak.com is the price you will pay when booking. Check your chosen airline's baggage and food policies, as many airlines now charge fees for checking even one bag, and for food and drink during the flight.

Tips & Warnings
Many airlines' websites offer a 'guaranteed lowest price' policy, so if you see a fare on Kayak.com or another travel website that's lower than the fare (for the same flight) listed on the airline site, you may be entitled to a further discount. Check with that particular airline for details.
