Most program applications allow you to choose a font for text. And although computers come with numerous font choices, sometimes the right font simply is not included. But if the font you want is saved on your computer and still it does not come up as a font option in your applications, it is because you have not installed the font.

Adding a New Font to Your PC

  1. Step 1

Have the font you wish to install. The font can come off a CD, be saved on a disk or USB drive, or simply be saved on your computer hard drive. Know where the font is stored. For free fonts, see the link below.

  2. Step 2

    Open your Control Panel.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Fonts" folder.

  4. Step 4

Open the "File Menu" listed in the toolbar. From that, select "Install New Font."

  5. Step 5

Locate your font. To do that, you will need to go to the "Drives" box and select the appropriate internal or external drive. Beside "Drives" is a "Folder" box. Once you have selected the appropriate drive, navigate through the folders. When you select the correct folder, any saved fonts will automatically become available for installation. They will appear in a box labeled "List of Fonts."

  6. Step 6

Select the font(s) you wish to install by simply clicking on them. (To click on more than one, hold down the "Alt" key while clicking.) You also have a "Select All" option. Once you have selected your font(s), click the "OK" button. Your font(s) will then be installed.
