How to Save Games on the XBox 360 Core System

Although the Xbox 360 Core System does not come with internal system memory, it is easy to install either a hard drive or a memory unit to save games. Once you have upgraded to either of these forms of system memory, you will be able to save games, user profiles, audio files and downloadable Xbox Live content. It takes only a few steps to install either the hard drive or the memory unit that will enable you to save games on the Xbox 360 Core System.

  1. Hard Disk Installation and Saving

      Turn off the Xbox 360 console.

      Remove the cover found on the top of the console. This is called the hard drive bay.

      Properly Installed Hard Drive

      With the thick end of the hard drive pointing to the rear of the console, place the hard drive into the bay. Make sure it is seated comfortably and the tab clicks.

      Turn on the console and navigate to "System > Memory." You should see the hard drive's name on the screen.

      Test the hard drive by loading a game and attempting to save. The Xbox 360 will automatically save to the newly installed hard disk.

    Memory Unit Installation and Saving

      Locate the slots marked "Memory Unit." These are located next to the disc tray on the front of the console.

      Plug the memory unit into either slot.

      Test the memory unit by loading a game and attempting to save. The Xbox 360 will automatically save to the memory unit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not remove the memory card while it is saving.
