How to Draw a Big Rig

Big rigs are very large transport trucks, responsible for delivering the majority of goods to every corner of the United States. They may be responsible for more that a quarter of our greenhouse gases, but they've also fascinated children and adults with their power and their clean lines. A big rig is primarily made up of a trapezoid and a rectangle, and by studying your favorite models, you can embellish your drawing to resemble them quite closely.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a rectangle and a trapezoid. The rectangle should be 2.5 cm x 9 cm, and the trapezoid should be 2.5 cm x 3 cm x 3 cm x 1 cm.

    • 2

Draw five wheels on the big rig. All five should be approximately 5 cm in diameter. Draw one wheel below the narrowest part of the trapezoid. Draw two wheels below the leftmost part of the rectangle, and two wheels below the rightmost part of the rectangle.

    • 3

Draw the shape of the big rig's cab more clearly. It should have three steps coming down the top-left side: the top of the cab, the windshield and the hood.

    • 4

Erase the space above the top wheel, and draw a broad curve that mimics the shape of the wheel, flattening out when it reaches the rightmost point of the hood and extending, horizontally, until it reaches the back of the cab. Draw a strip connecting the front three wheels, taking up close to the full height of the wheels.

    • 5

Draw a series of dots inside each wheel, representing the space between the wheel covers. Draw a trapezoid shaped window to the right of the cab's windshield. Draw a square shaped window to the right of the driver's window you just drew, and a triangle-shaped window above that.

    • 6

Draw a rectangle-shaped window on the left upper side of the big rig's cargo. Draw a .5 cm thick stripe across the full length of the big rig's cargo. Shade in the remainder of the big rig, except for the stripe.
