Short Message Service, or SMS, is easy to do from most cell phones. If you do not have this feature on your cell phone or cellular plan, you can still send an SMS text if you have access to the Internet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Phone number to which you wish to send an SMS text message
  1. Step 1

Open your web browser and go to the txt2day.com website (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Enter the recipient's cell phone number in the "Phone Number" field. Enter your email address into the "Return E-mail" field. Note that entering an email address is optional.

  3. Step 3

Select the recipient's cellular provider from the "Select Provider" drop-down menu, and proceed to Step 6. If you do not know the provider, click the "Lookup" link next to the drop-down menu, and continue to Step 4.

  4. Step 4

Enter the first six digits of the phone number in the two fields in the "Cell Phone Provider Lookup" pop-up box. Click on the "Look Up Provider" button.

  5. Step 5

Make a note of the most likely provider, and click the "Close This Window" link. Select this provider from the "Select Provider" drop-down menu.

  6. Step 6

Type your message into the "Enter Text Message" field. You have a 140-character limit, and the number counts down as you type.

  7. Step 7

Answer the math problem in the "Answer Anti-Spam" field, and check the box to indicate that you agree to the terms of service.

  8. Step 8

Click the "Send It" button to send your SMS text message to the recipient.

Tips & Warnings
  • Identify yourself in the body of the text message if the recipient might not recognize your email address. This helps the recipient identify the sender, and you are more likely to receive a response.
