How to Calculate Year-to-Date

Year-to-date refers to the time period from Jan. 1 to the current day. It is commonly used in calculating returns as well as financial statement analysis. Comparing year-to-date figures to past periods allows analysts to compare the company's performance over time.

Instructions

    • 1

List all of the months, beginning with January to the current month.

    • 2

Write the sales figure next to each month. For the current month, write the amount of sales accumulated during the month so far until the current ending day.

    • 3

Add all of the sales data from January to the current month. This is the year-to-date sales the company has generated.
