Things You'll Need:
- Luggage bag
-
Step 1
Roll or bundle wrap garments to minimize wrinkles and maximize space. Put tissue paper in rolled or folded garments to further minimize wrinkling. Don't pack garments in plastic bags.
-
Step 2
Color coordinate your wardrobe by mixing and matching tops and bottoms from a single color palette. Dress up or down with accessories. A well-tailored jacket or blazer can be versatile for men and women.
-
Step 3
Wear your heaviest shoes or boots en route; pack the lighter pair. Save valuable space by stuffing socks and other pliable items inside the packed shoes; put the shoes inside shoe bags.
-
Step 4
If you bring toiletries in your carry-on, follow the TSA's 3-1-1 rule: liquids and gels in containers of three ounces or less, packed in one quart-size resealable plastic bag, with one bag per person.
-
Step 5
Pack medicines, prescriptions, and important papers in your carry-on luggage.
-
Step 6
Use only TSA-approved locks on checked baggage. Don't put anything of value in your checked baggage.
-
Step 7
If shipping bags or large or odd-size items (such as surfboards, golf clubs, or fishing rods) to a hotel, let the hotel know they're coming. Mark the packaging clearly with your name and arrival date and note that you are a guest.
-
Step 8
Check the TSA website at tsa.gov for a complete list of prohibited items for air travel.
-
Step 9
When filling out baggage tags, a phone number and/or e-mail address should suffice. Indicating your home address advertisers that you're not there. Also put the information inside the bags.
-
Step 10
Check your airline's baggage restrictions well in advance of departure so you know the maximum weight and size for checked and carry-on bags (measured in linear inches: length + width + height). You don't want to find out your carry-on bag too big and be forced to check luggage at the last minute.
