Step 1
Go to YogiToes and check out their skidless mats under shopping. Many yoga studios, especially ones that offer Bikram yoga will sell them, too. You can also check Dick's Sporting Goods. Barefoot Yoga Co. also has a version of the yoga towel. See resources below for links.
-
Step 2
Bring your yoga towel or skidless yoga mat to your yoga class and keep it off to the side for awhile. I've noticed that yoga towels actually require sweat to start working - almost the opposite of your standard roll-up, sticky mat.
-
Step 3
Place the yoga towel on top of your mat when you start to feel an overall perspiration on the body and/or you start to feel the first signs of slipping on your sticky mat. The improvement in your practice, at this point, will start to shine. Having a softer, but more trustworthy surface under you makes your practice more enjoyable and organic feeling.
-
Step 4
Wash your yoga towel. This is a benefit that is almost as wonderful as being able to stay on the ground in Triangle and not worry whether or not you're going to end up in the splits. Having something clean under you during your practice helps keep you positive and present. The embarrassing truth is that most of us tend to not wipe down our yoga mats enough to keep them smelling or looking that fresh.
