How to Make a Homemade Rat Trap
Rats infest homes and cause destruction to the areas of the house they live in. Ridding your home of rats requires patience and a plan. The plan usually involves an expensive mousetrap that you may not be able to afford, or involves a messy mousetrap that causes a horrifying scene at cleanup. Homemade mousetraps can cut down on costs, while leaving the gory scenes to a minimum. Does this Spark an idea?

Cut 2 inches off the top of the soda bottle.

Glue a piece of barbwire over the top opening of the bottle. Size the barbwire so that is it exactly the shape and dimensions of the bottle's opening. The barbwire should replicate a swinging door.

Glue a toothpick across the opening of the bottle. Place the toothpick high enough to stop the barbwire from swinging outward but low enough for the rat to be able to step over it.

Put a spoonful of peanut butter at the uncut end of the bottle. Peanut butter attracts rats and mice to the location.

Place the bottle in an area where rat infestation has occurred. Position the bottle so the opening is an entrance. The rat can not escape once it enters because the toothpick prevents the barbwire from swinging outward.

I think the barbed wire needs to be in strips that hang from the top of the bottle and can be pushed in like the flap of a dog door, but the tooth pick keeps it from pushing out? This might work, but a rat will chew through the glue that holds the wire quickly. I think to make this really work you need to get the Rat warmed up to a bottle and just let it eat the peanut butter a time or two before it will push barbed wire out of its way. Rats are smarter than most people give them credit for/ smarter than some people.

Very confusing instructions when one has not a photo of the rat trap to go by.Can you please show a photo of the opening of the bottle with the bardwire and the toothpick so l can make sense of it.

I really need a picture of this! it made no sense to me either & tyson ~ I "don't" care how they die, but I cannot use poisons. my dogs would eat the poisoned rats & "they" would die.
