Using a chimney charcoal starter for igniting charcoal is fast and easy. More importantly, the use of a chimney charcoal starter eliminates the need for lighter fluid, thereby reducing the emission of harmful chemicals and fumes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chimney Charcoal Starter
  • Two Sheets of Newspaper
  • Charcoal
  • Lighter
  • Heat Resistant Grill Gloves
  1. Step 1

Turn the chimney charcoal starter upside down. Take two sheets of newspaper, roll them up, and place them around the bottom of the chimney charcoal starter. If possible, try to leave a little opening in the middle of the circle you formed so air can get in.

  2. Step 2

Flip the starter right side up, place it on a fire-safe surface, and fill it with charcoal/wood chunks.

  3. Step 3

Light the newspaper (typically there are holes in the chimney charcoal starter near the bottom that will allow you to insert a match or lighter for easy ignition).

  4. Step 4

Allow the charcoal/wood to burn for about 15 minutes and then distribute it evenly throughout the bottom of your grill.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear heat resistant gloves when handling the hot chimney charcoal starter
