Floral picks are mini floral or greenery arrangements that are put into larger floral arrangements or bouquets. These little bunches are used, mostly, to fill in areas at the bottom of an arrangement. You can sometimes find artificial floral picks in arts and craft stores. If you are an aspiring florist or just trying to stay within a wedding budget, it would be beneficial to know the skill of making floral picks.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flowers (and greenery)
  • Wood floral picks
  1. Step 1

Gather the flowers and greenery you would like to include in your floral picks. For most floral arrangements and bouquets you will use smaller flowers and buds, along with small-leafed greenery. You can use fresh, silk, dried or plastic.

  2. Step 2

Use wood floral picks, from an arts and crafts store, to make your floral picks. If this is not available to you, you may purchase wooden skewers from the grocery store and cut them in half with a clippers. The wood floral picks have a wire attached at the top. You will need to add floral wire if you use the wood skewers.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the small floral grouping and wrap the pick's wire around it to secure. Start with the end of the wire at the top of the stems and work your way down, wrapping the wire for about an inch or so.

  4. Step 4

Trim the stems, if needed, so most of the bottom of the pick is visible. Your floral pick is ready to stick into a floral arrangement or bouquet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although it shouldn't be necessary, for structural purposes, you may use floral tape over the short stems on the floral pick.
