Employ good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss once per day. If you don't, bacteria on your toothbrush could contribute to your bad breath.
Visit your dentist twice yearly for regular cleanings. Your dentist or oral hygienist will remove plaque buildup from your teeth. If this buildup is not removed, it can both cause and exacerbate bad breath.
Chew sugar-free gum after eating. While it's best to brush your teeth after meals, chew sugarless gum when you don't have easy access to your toothbrush and toothpaste. Chewing gum helps to remove food particles that may be lodged in your teeth. It also helps to kill bacteria that can cause bad breath.
Do not smoke. Smoking is one of the leading causes of bad breath. If you continue to smoke, you will not be able to get rid of bad breath permanently. All treatment methods will only mask the smell of smoker's breath. If you quit smoking, you'll improve your breath as well as your overall health.

You can also turn a spoon upside down on your tongue and gently scrape it from the back to the front of your tongue. You can also simply brush your tongue with your toothbrush. This helps to remove bacteria from your tongue that can cause bad breath.
Avoid foods that exacerbate bad breath. Foods such as garlic, onions, milk, cheese and fish can all cause bad breath. Liquids such as alcohol and coffee also lead to bad breath. If you avoid these substances, you will be less likely to get bad breath.
See a dentist or doctor if you are unable to get rid of your bad breath on your own. In some instances, bad breath may be a sign of a more serious underlying issue, such as digestive disorders.
