How to Convert Megajoules to Kilowatts
Scientists and engineers convert megajoules to kilowatts to determine the efficiency of energy movement at a given speed. This is especially useful when designing energy-efficient light bulbs, for example, because electrical energy coverts to light energy. The speed of this conversion enables engineers to determine brightness and the longevity of the light bulb components, especially the filaments, as a certain amount of energy moves through them at a certain speed.
A joule measures the energy spent by one newton to move an object one meter. A megajoule equals 1,000,000 joules.
A kilowatt is equal to 1,000 watts. A watt measures the speed of energy conversion and equals a joule of energy per second.

Multiply the number of megajoules by 0.278 to convert to kilowatts. For example: 100 megajoules x 0.278 = 27.8 kilowatts.

Reverse the formula to convert kilowatts into megajoules by multiplying the number of kilowatts by 3.6. The ratio of kilowatts to megajoules is 1:3.6. For example, 100 kilowatts x 3.6 = 360 megajoules.

Reverse the formula again to convert from megajoules back to kilowatts using this example: 360 megajoules x 0.278 = 100 kilowatts.
