Perler beads are little plastic tube beads that can be arranged on special peg boards to make almost any design. Once heat is added, the beads bond together permanently. These designs can be used in a range of projects, including magnets, jewelry and picture frames. Kids especially enjoy using perler beads, which can provide hours of entertainment. Perler beads and peg boards are available at most craft stores and in the craft aisle of many discount stores.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place the perler beads onto the peg board in the desired design. Make sure every bead is next to at least one other bead on the board.

  2. Step 2

Lay a piece of parchment paper over the completed design. (Cover the entire surface of the beads or they may melt to the iron.)

  3. Step 3

Set the iron on medium heat. Iron over the beads in a circular motion for 10 seconds. Take care not to let the parchment paper slip off the beads.

  4. Step 4

Allow the beads to cool for two to three minutes. Gently peel the paper from the design and lift the design from the peg board.

  5. Step 5

Flip the fused design over and cover with parchment paper. Iron this side to complete the fusing process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Glow in the dark beads are available. Perler creations can be hot glued onto jewelry findings, such as pin backs, to make wearable art.
  • Avoid excessive ironing or you may damage the peg board. Only adults should iron the beads.
