How to Open a CPC Extension File

CPC is an image compression format developed by Cartesian Products, Inc. The major advantage of the CPC format is a dramatic reduction in the file size that is 5 to 20 times smaller than the corresponding TIFF. Cartesian Products, Inc offers several tools to view and manipulate CRC files, particularly, the free web browser add-on CPC View (Lite) to display those files.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the CPC View download webpage.

    • 2

Click on the link "To automatically install CPC View ax, click here" If you use Internet Explorer. Note: if you use a different web browser, click on the link "To download CPC View pi, click here."

    • 3

Right click on the warning message line and, from pop-up menu, select "Install this Add-on for All users on this Computer." Note: depending on settings, Internet Explorer may block installation of Adds-on. Hence, a warning message on the top of the page may appear: "This website wants to install the following add-on : "CPC View ax [version] from Cartesian Products, Inc. ... ."

    • 4

Click "Install," and then click "OK" to associate CPC files with Internet Explorer. Installation takes 5 to 20 seconds.

    • 5

Open Internet Explorer, click menu "File" >"Open," and then "Browse."

    • 6

Select "All Files" as File type, and browse your hard drive to find the CPC file.

    • 7

Click on the CPC file, click "Open," and then click "OK." Note: Internet Explorer should display the file.

Tips & Warnings

  • CPC View in the Lite mode has limited functionality but can be easily upgraded to the full version for $29.95 as of 2009.
