How to Make Tuna Casserole From Scratch
Tuna casserole is an inexpensive meal popular in many parts of the United States. There are several versions of the dish available, but the use of pasta and canned tuna is persistent in most recipes. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Saucepan
- Macaroni
- Cooking spray
- Celery
- Onion
- Evaporated milk
- Cream of mushroom soup
- Tuna
- Pimentos
- Casserole dish
- Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley

Fill a saucepan with water and place on the stove over high heat. Pour 1 1/3 cups of macaroni into the pan once the water is boiling. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the noodles are tender. Strain and set aside.

Spray a separate saucepan with cooking spray. Add 1 cup of chopped celery and 1 1/3 cup of chopped onions. Place over medium heat and cook for six to eight minutes, or until tender.

Stir ¾ cup of evaporated milk and 1 can of cream of mushroom soup in with the vegetables. Add the macaroni, 1 can of water-packed tuna, and ¼ cup of chopped pimentos. Stir well, and then transfer to a large casserole dish.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and sprinkle 2 tbsp. of parmesan cheese over the tuna mixture. Place the tuna casserole into the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove the tuna casserole from the oven and sprinkle 2 tbsp. of chopped fresh parsley on top. Serve immediately and refrigerate any leftovers.

Tips & Warnings
Whole milk can be used in place of evaporated milk. Use reduced-fat cream of mushroom soup and reduced-fat parmesan cheese to lower the fat content of the meal.
