There are many different types of siding a person can choose for his home. One of those types is aluminum siding. Aluminum siding is durable and usually a good choice if you live near an ocean because the aluminum is not affected by the salt in the ocean air. Aluminum siding must be cleaned differently than other types of siding because it is a metal. You can make your own aluminum siding cleaner at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • Large bucket
  • Garden hose
  • Measuring cup
  • Power washer
  • Baking soda
  • Gallon jug
  • Scrub brush

Instructions

      Measure out a one-quarter cup of laundry detergent and add it to a large bucket. Fill the bucket with water from your garden hose. You will need about 4 gal. of water.

      Place the cleaner in a power washer and and clean your siding ,starting at the top and working your way down.

      Make a spot cleaner for the dirtier sections of the aluminum siding, by filling a gallon jug with hot water. Add one tsp. baking soda and 2 tbsp. laundry detergent.

      Place the cap on the jug and shake it until the ingredients are combined. Then pour over the dirtiest parts of the house and scrub with a scrub brush.

      Allow the spot cleaner above to sit at least 15 minutes before scrubbing if the stain is set in.

Tips & Warnings

  • Power wash your aluminum siding on low. Aluminum can become dented with too much force.

  • Do not use bleach on aluminum siding. Bleach is OK on vinyl siding.
