How to Add a Label on a Portrait in Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular tools available for image editing and creation. One feature that has always been available in Photoshop is the Type Tool. This tool allows one to easily add text to images or even create text-only images. The Type Tool gives the user similar control that one would expect in a word processing document such as orientation, alignment, color, font, size and more. One simple use of this tool might be to add a basic label to a portrait photo.
Instructions

1
Open up Photoshop and click "File" then "Open." Locate the photograph you wish to add the label to and click "Open."
-
2
Select the Type Tool (the "T" icon in the Tools panel), or simply press "T" on the keyboard, and click anywhere inside your image. This automatically creates a new Type layer that separates the text from your actual image.

3
Choose the Font and Size attributes that suit your needs on the Type toolbar at the top of the window. Type your text for your label. You might want to use the person in the portrait's name, the date or a brief description of the photo.

Click the checkmark icon on the type toolbar (it is located at the far right of the top toolbar). Press "V" on your keyboard to select the Move tool. Now move your text by clicking and holding to drag your label to the desired position.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with Layer Effects (the 'fx' icon in the Layers panel) to add some unique effects to your text label. This is a more advanced feature of Photoshop, but you can learn a great deal by simply playing around. Some popular uses are Drop Shadow and Stroke.
