Chrome cleaner and elbow grease will make exhaust pipes sparkle.

Cleaning your motorcycle exhaust pipes is a straightforward process involving a little elbow grease and some chrome polish. Most cleaners are designed to clean buildup as well as rust. When chrome polish is unavailable, WD-40 can be used as well. Just be sure to keep the cleaning products off the paint job.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase chrome polish from an auto-supply store or large retail department store.

    • 2

Shake product thoroughly and apply to a dry, soft polishing cloth. Only a small amount is needed; you can always apply more if necessary.

    • 3

Rub exhaust pipes thoroughly with a gentle circular motion until clean. If build up is excessive, either repeat the process starting with step 1, or continue to step 4.

    • 4

For excessive buildup of sticky residue, gently scrape the residue off with an old knife wrapped in a soft cloth, and continue buffing with the cleanser.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep off the paint, as chrome polish is not intended for any other use. Wash hands thoroughly after use, and avoid contact with eyes.
