How to Copy & Print a Screen

Sometimes there is a viable information included on your computer's desktop that needs to be submitted in the same way that it is shown on the desktop. This is true when there are many images with listed file names open on a desktop, or when certain computer documents need to be shown in a particular way when they are submitted to a superior. In order to copy the screen and print it, there are a few simple steps that can be taken to create a high-quality print.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the desktop to make sure that it is selected. For best results, the page should be maximized. A page can be maximized by clicking on the square on the top of the page next to the "X" button.

    • 2

Press the "Print Screen" key and the "Alt" key simultaneously. Doing this will copy the current window. In order to copy the full screen, press only the "Print Screen" button on the top of the keyboard.

    • 3

Open the document in which the image of the screen shot will be placed. Photo-editing software like Photoshop can be used, and programs like Microsoft Word will also work. The type of document opened is not important as long as an image can be pasted into it.

    • 4

Hold down the "Control" and the "P" keys at the same time. This will paste the screen shot into the document. The image also can be pasted into the document by right-clicking on the mouse and selecting the word "Paste" from the menu that opens on the screen.

    • 5

Go to the "File" menu and select "Print" to print the page. The page also can be printed by selecting the "Control" key and the "P" key at the same time. When the "Print" window opens, choose "OK" and the page will print.

Tips & Warnings

  • If only part of the screen needs to be printed, use the crop tool in the document to crop the image to the size it should be before it is printed.

  • Screen shots sometimes do not have as high of quality as other images on the computer may. This means that if the images are to be blown up to a larger size, the images may end up being pixelated.
