How to Photoshop Hair

One of the most requested Photoshop tutorials has to do with painting hair. Everyone wants to know an easy way to paint hair into an image. Unfortunately, there isn't one. Painting hair into an image in Photoshop requires time and effort. However, it is doable, and the results can be quite impressive.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop, and open an image you want to work with.

    • 2

Go to the Toolbar, and click on the "Foreground" color. A dialog box will open. If your image already has hair you simply want to extend, use the "Eyedropper" to select the darkest shade of the hair color from the image. If not, select a color you like.

    • 3

Go to the Toolbar, and select the "Brush" tool. Select a tip with a grainy texture. Change the size to about 64. Start painting in the hair, using long, smooth strokes.

    • 4

Click on the foreground color again, and select a brighter version of the same color. Then change the "Brush" setting to "Lighten," and brush in some highlights.

    • 5

Change the "Brush" setting to darken, and add some shadows. And that's it. The rest is practice.
