Step 1
Make sure your phone is on the "Home" screen and find the blue icon for App Store. Traditionally, Apple iPhones ship with the App Store icon beside the iTunes icon on the front page of the screen. Open App Store.

Depending on your recent use of the App Store, the first page to come up might be different. There are five buttons at the bottom of the page. Click "Search."

From the "Search" screen, you can type any keywords, phrases or titles to see if the Apple Store has any relevant applications. Press inside the white search box at the top and type "yahoo messenger." Once you begin to type, the App Store will narrow your results. As soon as you see "Yahoo Messenger" appear, click on it and it will take you to the application page.

The price of the application will be displayed to the right of the screen. It should remain free. Click on Yahoo Messenger to be taken to the application page.

You can read product information, customer reviews and see screen shots. To download the program, press on the blue "Free" button at the top right-hand corner of the screen. The button will change to green and say "Buy Now." Press again to confirm the download.

You will be required to enter your iTunes Store account information. Type your account password, and iTunes will authorize your purchase. If authorized, your phone will exit the App Store and begin to install your application.

When fully installed, the Yahoo Messenger icon will be fully colored and ready to use. Press the icon to begin chatting.
