Strattera is a prescription medication for treating ADHD.

Strattera is the brand name of a prescription medication manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, and is used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients age 6 and older. The chemical compound of Strattera is atomoxetine hydrochloride. Because Strattera is a non-stimulant medication for ADHD, there are no known withdrawal effects in patients who stop taking the drug.

  1. How to Discontinue Strattera

    • 1

      Consult with a doctor before discontinuing the Strattera medication.

      Review information from the drug manufacturer, which states that it is not necessary to taper off use of Strattera. The drug can be discontinued immediately at any time in consultation with a doctor.

      Be aware that ADHD symptoms may return in two to three days in the absence of any substitute treatment after discontinuing Strattera.

    • 4

      Do not take a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) for at least two weeks after discontinuing Strattera, according to FDA recommendations.

      Talk to a physician if any symptoms or concerns arise after stopping Strattera.
