How to Advertise Your Web Page
Designing your web page is only half the battle. No one will know your web page even exists if you don't advertise it. Advertising the web page brings traffic to it. Once you get your web page established you will be able to bring in natural traffic through search engines, word of mouth and outside links. Getting started isn't hard, but it does take time.

Use traffic exchanges. These are free sites where you add your web page URL to the system and then look at other people's web pages to earn credits. Those credits are then used to display your web page in front of other surfers. This takes some time to do, but is worth it when you are just starting out.

Join some online forums that are based on the same topic as your web page. These forums will allow you to place your web page URL in your signature. Then every time you make a post your link is placed at the bottom. Other members will see your link, get curious, and then click on it and visit your site.

Create a small classified ad for your web page. Choose some online and offline publications to print it in. Make sure the publication matches the topic of your web page. For example, submit a classified ad for your dog food web page to dog-related magazine, not a publication for quilters. Placing a classified ad may cost you a few dollars to a few hundred dollars so make sure you include this in your advertising budget.

Write an article about your web page's topic. You can submit the article to hundreds of online sites for free. A link to your web page will be placed in your "About the author" box. If a reader likes your article he will click on your link to find out more. These articles will be around for a long time to come so it is worth it for you to advertise this way.

Visit some blogs that are on the same topic as your web page. Leave comments under the blog posts that are constructive, and then add your web page URL at the end of it. Don't just leave your URL and no comment--that is considered spamming.

Add your web page URL to the signature file on your email account. Then whenever you send an email your web page URL will be included at the bottom of the email. If you do a lot of emailing, this can be a great way to advertise with little effort.

Create a banner for your web page and pay to have it placed on popular websites. Again, you want the website to compliment your web page. So if you are selling dog biscuits you want to place a banner on a website that has something to do with dogs.

Join some online discussion groups. Yahoo and Google both have groups that are free to join. Look for groups on the same topic as your web page. Contribute to the group discussions and add your web page link to the group's links page.

Submit your web page URL to search engines. It can take a few weeks to a few months for them to spider your web page and place it in their search engine results, but it is necessary for gaining lots of visitors in the future.
Don't spam forums with your web page link. Just participate normally and you will generate some clicks to your web page.
