Draw Cuddles

Happy Tree Friends appears as a cute and cuddly cartoon show starring an adorable cast of anthropomorphic animals. However, each show is filled with horrific and comically gross violence that is shocking given the context of the characters and setting. This is part of the appeal for the show's strong cult following. One of the main characters of the show is the bunny Cuddles. Drawing her figure and face is much like drawing cartoon characters from the days of the early 1960s Saturday morning cartoons. Mastering this technique will allow you to draw other characters in this style.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the head of Cuddles with a slightly flattened oval shape. Add the belly and torso to the character with a large oval that comes out of the bottom of the head and gets wider and rounder at the bottom. Draw the ears with two large, elongated ovals coming out of the top of the head. Add the arms with two curved, thin "U" shapes coming off the upper right and left side of the body. Add the legs with two cylinder shapes attached to the bottom of the body.

    • 2

Draw the feet with two curved lines attached to the bottom of the feet. Add the eyes with two circles--place one near the upper-left side of the face and the other in the upper-right side of the face. Draw the half-smile of Cuddles with a slightly curved line under the eyes.

    • 3

Draw the inner ears with a smaller version of the ear shape directly inside the ears. Add a tuft of hair with a cloud shape made of curved lines between the ears and on the top of the head. Add the round cheeks with a circle at each end of the smile. Add the rabbit teeth with a trapezoid shape coming down from the center of the smile. Split this into two teeth with a diagonal line in the center.

    • 4

Draw a short diagonal line going up from the center of smile. Attach a nose to the top of this line with small heart shape. Add the pupils to the eyes with a small oval in the bottom left corner of each eye. Add a small, sideways "V" to the right side of the eye to give this a cartoon look. Add thumbs to the hands with a small curved line on top of each hand. Add the slippers on Cuddles with a horizontal line across the bottom of each leg. Add ears with two small, thin, elongated ovals at the top of each foot. Add the eyes with two small dots just below the ears.

    • 5

Erase the guidelines on Cuddles. Ink the entire illustration but heavily ink the lines on the ears, head, arms and belly to give the illustration a more traditional cartoon look. Darken in the pupils of the eyes.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can color the illustration of Cuddles using art markers to give the picture some extra "oomph."

  • The thick lines of ink will smudge easily unless you allow them to dry thoroughly before erasing any guidelines.
