Have you ever tried to turn on a lamp at the switch and it did not work? There are easy reasons for this to happen - a burnt out bulb, a turned off outlet, a frayed cord or simply, a power switch in the off position. However, sometimes a lamp switch needs to be fixed because it has broken. This article will show you how to fix a broken lamp switch.

    The first step in replacing a broken lamp switch is to protect yourself from the risk of shocking yourself by simply unplug the lamp from the power outlet. Don't be fooled that since the lamp is off that you are save - you're not. So, be safe!

  2. Step 2
    Remove your bulb!
    Remove your bulb!

    The next step is pretty simple too. Simply take off your lamp shade, put it aside and remove the light bulb. Put that aside too so you can use it later.

  3. Step 3

    Next, you need to get to the socket and switch. To do this, push hard on the metal outside of the socket. It will give way and allow you to pull off the outside and the insulating jacket in one piece.

    Ok, you're almost done! Now, pull out the lamp switch (the wires). Unscrew the screws you see on either side of the socket, disconnect the wires and remove the switch. Take the switch to a hardware store and buy a replacement. To, re-install it, simply do these same steps in reverse!
